Pedestrian Fatally Struck by North Hollywood Hit-and-Run Driver, Los Angeles Police Say

North Hollywood, CA (May 12, 2026) – A pedestrian was fatally struck in a hit-and-run crash early Wednesday morning in North Hollywood, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Authorities reported that the collision occurred at approximately 1:55 a.m. on Magnolia Boulevard just west of Tujunga Avenue near the 170 Freeway. Preliminary information indicates that the pedestrian was crossing the roadway outside of a marked crosswalk when a BMW 5-Series traveling westbound on Magnolia Boulevard struck the victim.

Police said the driver failed to stop following the collision and continued westbound, possibly entering the 170 Freeway shortly afterward. Emergency crews with the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene and located the victim suffering from fatal injuries.

The pedestrian, later identified by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner as 34-year-old, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities stated they were still working to determine additional details regarding the victim’s residence status.

Investigators temporarily secured the area while officers examined the crash site and collected evidence. Video footage from the scene reportedly showed extensive debris scattered across the roadway following the collision.

Officials are asking anyone who may have information regarding the crash or who notices a car  with heavy front-end damage to contact investigators. No description of the driver has been released at this time.

The Los Angeles Police Department continues to investigate the fatal hit-and-run crash.

Steps to Take After a Pedestrian Hit-and-Run Crash in North Hollywood, California

The first steps after a serious pedestrian hit-and-run crash in North Hollywood include seeking emergency medical attention, contacting law enforcement, preserving evidence, documenting the scene if possible, and reviewing legal and insurance options. These actions can help protect important information following devastating incidents such as the fatal collision reported Wednesday morning on Magnolia Boulevard near the 170 Freeway.

Medical care should always be the highest priority after any pedestrian accident. In this incident, the victim suffered fatal injuries after being struck by a vehicle. Pedestrian crashes frequently result in catastrophic harm due to the lack of physical protection between the victim and the vehicle. Even in situations where injuries initially appear survivable, internal trauma, head injuries, and spinal damage may require immediate emergency treatment.

Reporting the incident and cooperating with law enforcement is also critical after a hit-and-run collision. Police officers investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, gather witness statements, review surveillance footage, and attempt to identify the fleeing driver. In the North Hollywood case, investigators believe the BMW driver continued westbound and may have entered the nearby 170 Freeway after the collision.

If conditions are safe, documenting the crash scene may also assist investigators. Photos or videos of roadway debris, vehicle damage, skid marks, lighting conditions, nearby traffic signals, and surveillance cameras can become important pieces of evidence. In hit-and-run investigations, even small details may help authorities identify the vehicle involved.

Preserving evidence and maintaining organized records after a crash can also support the recovery and investigation process. Medical reports, police documents, witness contact information, surveillance footage, and communication with insurance companies should all be retained whenever possible.

Fatal pedestrian accidents often raise complex legal and insurance questions, particularly when a driver leaves the scene. Families affected by these incidents may choose to review available legal options while investigators continue working to identify those responsible. An attorney may help explain what rights and options may exist depending on the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Pedestrian hit-and-run crashes continue to occur across California, frequently resulting in life-threatening or fatal injuries. The North Hollywood collision highlights the importance of remaining at the scene after an accident and the serious consequences that can follow when drivers fail to stop and render aid.
